Ángel Cabrera receives the "Golden Putter"
The prize awarded by Ping is given to golf players who win important championships using a Ping putter. With this award, Cabrera is making history like other famous golf players.
By Por PGM Management After the recent Master Golf Tournament in Augusta, "Pato"; was honored with the first "solid gold putter" given by Ping in recognition of his triumph in the US Open.
Cabrera recived the putter by the director and owner of the company, John Solheim.
As this is the first time a Ping golf player wins the US Open, the company decided that, instead of the classic gold-plated putter, they would honor Cabrera with a solid gold one.
Since 1970, Ping has rewarded professional golf players who win important championships using Ping putters. According to the initiative, the company makes two replicas engraved with the player´s name and the tournament. One replica is given to the golf player and the other is kept by the company which, with more than 2,300 gold-plated putters, has one of the most valuable putter´s collections all over the world. This new solid gold putter engraved with Cabrera´s name is now part of this collection.
Cabrera has received two engraved putters; the first one in 2002, when he won Benson and Hedges International Open Tournament, and the other one in 2005, when he won BMW Championship.
It is important to emphasize that four Ping golf players have won four majors so far: PGA Championship won by Bob Tway in 1987, PGA Championship won by John Daly in 1991, British Open won by Mark Calcavecchia in 1989 and US Open won by Ángel Cabrera in 2007.
