Interview with Angel Cabrera

Randall Álvarez:
"Hello and welcome to this edition of Profiles.....
Today we introduce the Argentinian golf player, Angel “el Pato”Cabrera…"

Cabrera’s history is very interesting since he has achieved success at the national, Southamerican and European level and he is a potential winner in U.S.A.
His career shows that the desire to improve and the conviction that anything can be achieved is what governs human beings’ success.
His history also shows us that it is important to understand since childhood what to look for in life and go for its conquest.
A simple man who knows how to learn from his mistakes and easily adapts to new environments, this is “Pato Cabrera”….
Nowadays he is competing in U.S.A and recently he had a chat about his life and career with Paco Aleman … Here, some passages of the interview:
Paco Aleman

Angel, how does the relationship with golf start?

Angel Cabrera: I lived very near to the golf course in Villa Allende and well, my friends that were a bit older than me went to the Golf very often and one day I was interested in that and I said ” I’m going to see what is going on, to see what is it about, ” I was ten years old, and I stayed there….

Paco Aleman: When did you realize that you could be a professional?

Angel Cabrera: Well, when I was 17, 18 years old, I started to play more seriously, I started to… in the Abierto del Centro, I played very well one year, I ended up in the sixth position when I was 18. That was when I started to play and I believed I could be a professional…

Second Segment

Randall Álvarez: Back to Profiles... Today with us the Argentinian golf player, Angel Cabrera…”El Pato” has always come across obstacles in the golf course and in the tournaments he has participated in…But he went on in a process of evolution and learning and gaining more and more confidence, it seems that he has found the way to overcome the greatest obstacle: the conviction of victory…

Paco Aleman: How hard is it to win?

Angel Cabrera: I mean, it’s not that hard, I believe that you have to be willing to do it. If you have the skills, and will and hunger for victory, I think you can do everything. Last year, I always said I have to win a tournament in Europe. How is it possible that I didn’t win a tournament in Europe?. I won the Benson and Hedges International Open, I mean, a great tournament. I think that you have to feel like doing it, no, it’s not that hard and this has been proven by those Argentinian that won lots of tournaments. José has won, Ricardo has won, el Gato has won, el Chino. It’s all about confidence, believing in your heart that you can win.

Third Segment

Randall Álvarez: Back to Profiles... The first time is always important; Angel Cabrera had already achieved his first victory in the European Tour even though it was in Argentina. However, he did not win in the Old Continent land… Thanks to hard work and more confidence, that moment arrived in 2002 when he achieved victory in the course of Belfry in England.

Paco Aleman: 2002 arrived and finally the victory arrived in Europe…

Angel Cabrera: Yes, the tournament arrived, the truth is that the tournament that I was waiting for so long, it was like I knew I was going to win. I started last year here in the States and talking to Manuel, my caddie, I told him “I will go to Europe and in these three tournaments I will win one.” Eeehhh… And he even made a promise: “if you win I’m not going to smoke anymore”, he said to me.

Conclusion

Randall Álvarez: Angel Cabrera has been able to open up the way to professional golf step by step… He learnt a lot from Romero but that is no reason to compare them…”El Pato” keeps on showing his talent and persistence and that he still has a lot to give to the PGA Tour, and what really matters is that he seems to well assimilate this environment; his performance in the Masters – where a golf player can be measured – tells us a lot about what will come in the future… We have to give him a close look because his first victory in the Tour is a matter of time…
